Sgt William Cherry


Sergeant William Jace Cherry, age 55 of the Moss Community in Clay County passed away Saturday morning, July 29, 2023 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, August 2, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. from Macon County High School in Lafayette with Tim McHenry & Chaplain Jim Cubic officiating. Interment will follow in the Gamaliel Cemetery. All Employees of the Macon County Sheriff’s Department served as honorary pallbearers. David Biles, Tommy Dillehay, Joel King, Jason Vinson, Elliot Sandifer, & Aaron Shipley served as pallbearers.

Sergeant William Jace Cherry was born March 17, 1968 in Tompkinsville, KY, the son born to Billy Jace & Oka Sue Likens Cherry, and departed this life July 29, 2023 at the age of 55 years, 4 months, & 12 days. Sergeant Cherry earned an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice and started his career in Law Enforcement. He was a Sergeant with Macon County Sheriff’s Department. He was a former officer in Red Boiling Springs, security guard at Macon Community Hospital, and he served as the former Deputy Sheriff & Assistant Police Chief in Clay County. Sergeant Cherry was a journey tool maker and a great marksman. He loved hunting, fishing and his grandchildren.

Survivors include: wife, Aleatheia “Charlie” Fox Cherry of Moss; son and daughter-in-law, T.J. & Brittney Langford of Westmoreland; daughters, Alivia Jones & Faith Gentry both of Red Boiling Springs; grandchildren, Ryder, Conner Jace, Skyler Langford, & Aubree Goad; parents, Billy & Sue Likens Cherry of Moss; brother-in-law, Dewayne & wife, Kim Fox of Lafayette.
