Junior Tigers win home opener


Fall officially arrives with the start of school and area football. The Macon County Junior High held their season home opener on Thursday August 3rd against Stone Memorial.

In the opening possession of the game the Junior Tigers marched down the field and scored with 1:28 left in the first quarter. Ricardo Mendez took the ball around the left end and scored from 22 yards. The two point conversion was no good and Macon led 6-0.

Just before the half fullback Lane Oliver scored from two yards with 3:32 left in the second quarter. Braxton Boles made the two point conversion run and at the break Macon led 14-0.

The Panthers made some adjustments and scored on their opening possession of the third quarter to make it 14-6. Following a big kick-off return the Tigers answered on a 36 yard run by Boles for the third score. Mendez made the conversion and with 5:22 left in the third Macon led 22-6.

Stone would not concede though. At the 1:54 mark they would score and make their conversion to make it a one score game at 22-14.

Answering on the very next possession Aiden Barlow would score on an 8 yard run with 7:53 left to go in the game. Oliver made the conversion to make it 30-14.

Stone would march down and the Tigers would end the game with a goal-line stand at the one half yard line, turning away the Panthers. Final score Macon 30 Stone 14.

The win was the first for new MCJHS Head Coach Brandon Robertson.

The Junior Tigers next opponent will be at Overton County on Thursday Aug 10th. Game time is scheduled in Livingston for 6:30 pm.
