Child Found in Roadway, Uncle Arrested
By Jessie Williams
The 22-year-old uncle of a child found alone in the roadway last week, has been charged with child abuse.
According to the affidavit of complaint filed by the Lafayette Police Department, the 1-year-old boy was in the custody of his uncle, Logan Moore, when the child exited the house on Meador Drive and entered the roadway.
A female driver nearly ran over the child and stopped to remove him from the road.
The woman said she attempted to return the child to the residence, where she later told law enforcement it took Mr. Moore awhile to come to the door. In her statement, she also said Mr. Moore had been playing video games.
Moore then took the child from the woman and placed him back inside.
The incident was reported to police, and Moore was charged with child abuse due to neglecting the welfare and health of the juvenile, which could have resulted in bodily injury or death.
His bond was set at $14,000, and he is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on September 27, 2023.
