Junior Tigers handed first loss by White County
The Macon County Junior High Tigers got their first loss of the season as they traveled on Sep 7th in White County. It was a rematch of the conference championship from a year ago.
Following a Tiger kick-off, White County scored on their first play from scrimmage with a 70 yard run and took an 8-0 lead. Then on their first offensive possession, the Tigers marched down the field and scored on a Owen Pitts four yard quarterback sneak on fourth down. Hadyn Hasse made the conversion and at the 1:49 mark of the first period we were tied 8-8.
White County took the next possession and scored again but the conversion failed. With 7:24 left in the half they led 14-8. So we head to the break with White County leading 14-8.
Late in the third quarter the Tigers had their best starting field possession, inside the White County 45 yard line, but could do nothing with the possession. White County then proceeded to march down the field, converting two fourth down plays, and score with 2:18 left in the game to make it 22-8.
On the ensuing kick-off Matthew Brawner returned the ball 71 yards for the score. The conversion failed and with 2:06 left it was 22-14 White County.
The Junior Warriors would salt the game away with another score 30 seconds later. Final White County 30 Macon Co 14.
For the game Owen Pitts, who was injured early in the third quarter and did not return, was 3 of 6 passing for 41 yards and rushed twice for 18 yards. Carter Haehl came in and was 2 of 6 for 29 yards. Hadyn Hasse ran four times for 25 yards with one catch for four yards, Aiden Barlow rushed six times for 30 yards, and Ricky Mendez ran three times for 13 yards catching two passes for 29 yards. Matthew Brawner had two receptions for 37 yards.
Barlow led the way on defense with 11 tackles. Mendez and Deacon Green had four each, Cooper East, Colton Clark, Christian Mendoza, Cane Oliver, and Hasse each had two stops.
This gives the Junior Tigers a record of 4-1 with one loss in their division. Next up is homecoming scheduled against Prescott South at Pat Parker Memorial Field on Sep 12th. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:30 pm for the final regular season game.
