Macon Co wins at Cumberland County


The Macon County Tigers won their first region game in Crossville last Friday night. They defeated Cumberland County by a score of 35-0.

On the first offensive play from scrimmage of the game by the Jets, Tiger Zach Borders gets an interception and returns it for a score from 34 yards. Eli Gammon makes the PAT and with 11:23 left in the first Macon leads 7-0.

On their first possession of the game Macon quarterback Luke Gammon hits Braylon Flowers on a 35 yard touchdown pass with 7:19 on the clock. Eli Gammon converts the kick and Macon leads 14-0.

Following a Jet punt the Tigers convert a nine play 70 yard drive with a 10 yard run by Gabe Borders. Eli Gammon hits the PAT and Macon leads 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.

On the first series of the second quarter Gabe Borders fields a Jet punt and returns it 63 yards for a touchdown. Eli Gammon makes the PAT and Tigers lead 28-0.

Then with 6:03 left in the first half Luke Gammon hits Gabe Borders for a 69 yard touchdown reception. Eli’s kick is good and Macon leads 35-0 at the half.

Coach Shoulders began sprinkling in kids from the bench early and most starters were gone after one series. With a running clock, due to the mercy rule in high school, the second half went by fast with a lot of bench players from the Tiger squad getting playing experience. Final score was Macon 35 Cumberland Co 0.

For the game Luke Gammon was 6 of 9 passing for 142 yards and two touchdowns while rushing twice for 37 yards. Cooper Carlisle came on in relief and was 1 for 1 for 15 yards passing and had one nine yard rush. Brennan Flowers and Dakota Ridgeway each ran four times for 27 yards and nine yards. Tre McClain ran three times for eight yards, Cole Stephens ran two times for six yards, Tyler Gregory ran twice for six yards. Gabe Borders ran three times for 31 yards and a touchdown while catching three passes for 105 yards and another touchdown. Braylon Flowers had one catch for 35 yards and a touchdown. Killan Hire, Ty Young, and Bradon Warren each had one catch for fifteen, five, and three yards respectively.

Lots of Tigers played defense. Isaac McClard, JoJo Scott, and Ty Young led the way with five stops each. Bradon Warren, Hunter Griggs, and Tyler Gregory each had four. Cole Stephens had three. Zach Borders had a pick-six and Gabe Borders had a punt return for special teams touchdowns.

Next up is another region contest that will have post-season ramifications. White County will come to town this Friday night for homecoming at Pat Parker Memorial Field. The 50th anniversary of the undefeated 1973 squad will be honored during the evening. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
