Mattie Driver George

Mattie Ellen Driver George was born into this world on March 5, 1945, and departed this life for her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the age of seventy-eight years, six months, and one day.

As a young girl, Mattie was saved by The Lords Sweet Grace and was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Mattie was a 1963 graduate of Macon County High School. She married Harvey Gayle George on July 3, 1963. They were blessed with almost seventeen years of marriage before Harvey’s passing on January 20, 1980. Mattie was employed at Carter Automotive here in Lafayette as a machine operator and was a dedicated employee until the plant closed down. She then attended school to become a nail technician. She worked at a nail salon in Belle Meade for five years.

In her spare time, Mattie loved to be outdoors fishing and she also loved to dance. Along with her dear husband, Mattie was also preceded in death by her Parents, Leonard Madison Driver and Mary Ellen Holland Driver; and Sister, Lou Ann Kirby. Mattie will be dearly missed by her family and friends. We know because of her testimony of salvation that Mattie’s soul is resting easy with Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Those that have that same testimony will be reunited with her one day.

Mattie George is survived by; Son, Jeff George and wife, Sherry; Daughter, Susan Brawner and husband, Joel; Grandchildren, Reece Brawner, Roman Brawner, Shawn Hatcher, and Shannon Hatcher; Brother, Johnny Driver and wife, Glenda; Niece, Cindy Kirby; Nephews, David Wooten and wife, Debbie, and Jeff Owen and wife, Tracy. Eight Great-Grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Ms. Mattie George were conducted on Monday, September 11, 2023, from The Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Shawn Shoulders officiating.
