Lawrence Dyer


Lawrence Delford Dyer was born on December 20, 1917, in Macon County, Tennessee, to the late Sidney Mitchell Dyer and Emily Jane Parker Dyer. He was one of eleven children born to this union. Along with his parents, Mr. Lawrence Dyer was preceded in death by his First Wife, Virgie Freeman Dyer; Second Wife, Minnie Parker Dyer; Sons, Jackie Dyer and Danny Dyer; Parents, Sidney Mitchell Dyer and Emily Parker Dyer; Brothers, S.M. Dyer, Grandville Dyer, Chester Lee Dyer, Arnett Dyer, Carl Dyer, Jessie Dyer, Brandle Dyer, and Randle Dyer; and Sister, Myrtle Dyer.

Lawrence served his country The United States Army. He was inducted on May 16, 1941, in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. Lawrence was sent overseas to fight in the Philippine Islands. He was Staff Sergeant of Troop G, 7th Calvary and had several service medals with bronze stars. Lawrence was honorably discharged on September 29, 1945, from Fort McPherson, Georgia.

Lawrence worked as a farmer and carpenter. He always loved being outdoors – working, hunting, and fishing. In his spare time Lawrence enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. Lawrence was of the Missionary Baptist Belief and had that sweet heart-felt salvation in his soul. He had also been called to preach the gospel and was a wonderful preacher and teacher. On Sunday, September 17, 2023, at the age of One Hundred Five Years, Eight Months, and Twenty-Eight Days, Lawrence was called to his heavenly home. Can you imagine all the changes that Mr. Lawrence witnessed during his time on this earth? Can you imagine what he is witnessing in Heaven right now? Mr. Lawrence will be dearly missed by his family and friends, but our loss is truly Heaven’s gain!

Lawrence Dyer is survived by; Daughters, Mary Jane Tuttle and husband, Jerry, Judy Dyer, Peggy Sutton and husband, Bobby, and Patricia Holland and husband, James; Sons, Chester Dyer, and David E. Dyer and wife, Donna A.; Brother, Charlie Dyer and wife, Betty; Grandchildren, Kim Grace, Tim Tuttle, Jenifer Huffines, Jacob Dyer, Jonathan Sutton, Sid Dyer, Wayne Dyer, Jason Dyer, Joey Dyer, Jackson Spivey, Audra Hogan, Andrea Jones, Tonia Burton, Karen Pedigo, Kelley Foster, and Dakota Gregory. Numerous Great- Grandchildren, Great-Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Lawrence D. Dyer were conducted on Wednesday, September 20 2023, from The Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Glen Brawner officiating. Interment followed in The Frog Pond Cemetery. Pallbearers were; Coleman Pedigo, Jake Pedigo, Patrick Thomas, Kameron Dyer, Kaleb Dyer, Kyle Dyer, Matt Hudson, and Kevin Garnett.
