Tigers top White County at homecoming
The Macon County Tigers got another region win this past Friday night against White County. It was also homecoming for the Tigers.
On the first Tiger possession Luke Gammon hit Braylon “Not Joey” Flowers on a seven yard touchdown pass which capped a 15 play, nine minute drive. They extra point was good by Eli Gammon and Macon led 7-0.
Following a Warrior punt Macon then had a nine play scoring drive. Gabe Borders scored on a two yard run and Eli Gammon kicked the extra point. With 6:03 left in the half Macon led 14-0.
After another White County punt Tiger Zach Borders scored on a six yard run. Eli Gammon made the PAT and the Tigers were cruising at the half, leading 21-0.
There was a special recognition ceremony at halftime. The 1973 Macon County team is the only squad in the 96 year history of Tiger football to have a perfect winning season. The 50th anniversary of that team was recognized with all those in attendance who were part of that season. Teammates, band members, cheerleaders, and coaches were all shown appreciation, including Head Coach Glen Gregory. It was a well put together event enjoyed by many Tiger fans.
Now White County has been a second half team all year. On the first possession the Warriors scored on a 52 yard run. However on the ensuing kick-off Gabe Borders answered with an 81 yard touchdown return. With 8:43 left in the third quarter Macon led 28-7.
White County would answer that with another score to end the third quarter trailing 28-14.
The Tigers would score with 11:11 left in the 4th on a 13 yard run by Zach Borders but Eli Gammon would miss the extra point. The Warriors would score on another long run on the next possession to make it 34-21.
Each team would score one more time. Luke Gammon scored for the Tigers on a three yard run while Eli Gammon converted the kick. The Warriors scored with 2:46 left in the contest and the Tigers ran out the clock on the next possession. Final score Macon County 41 White County 28.
For the game Zach Borders had 15 rushes for 111 yards and two scores and caught one pass for nine yards. Twin brother Gabe Borders had seven runs for 55 yards and a touchdown while catching five passes for 66 yards. Bradon Warren had three runs for seven yards and Tyler Gregory four rushes for zero yards. Braylon Flowers caught one pass for seven yards and a score. Quarterback Luke Gammon was 7 of 7 passing for 82 yards and a touchdown while rushing 11 times for 55 yards and another score.
Once again the Tiger defense turned in another great performance against a dynamic White County offense that had been putting up large numbers all season. Jo Jo Scott led the defense with 12 stops followed by Tyler Gregory with nine. Hunter Griggs and Dalton Slayton had eight tackles and Ty Young had five. White County was only three of twelve on third downs in the contest.
