Drug & Child Abuse Charges for Three

By Jessie Williams

Lafayette police officers arrested three individuals on drug and child abuse charges last week following a traffic stop.

According to the affidavit of complaint, Officer Zachary Hanson initiated the traffic stop on Scottsville Rd. after observing a black car driving the wrong way on the Lafayette Public Square.

The driver, 24-year-old Kameron Hoskins, was slow to respond to officers.

When Hoskins stepped out of the vehicle to perform a field sobriety test, officers observed a scale with a white, powdery substance on it, sitting on the driver side floorboard.

The two adult passengers in the car, 28-year-old Thomas Storey and 19-year-old Whitney Slack, were asked to step out of the vehicle. Two small children were moved from the backseat into a patrol car while officers conducted a search.

During the search officers discovered a bag in the glove compartment containing three needles, two pills in Slack’s bag, a white, powdery substance on the front and back floorboard and a needle stuck between the fold-up cup holder where the two young children were located in the vehicle.

Storey, Hoskins and Slack were arrested and transported to the Macon County Jail.

While at the jail, Mr. Storey was found to have 1.85 grams of  a white, powdery substance in his possession.

He was charged with mfg/del/poss. meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, introduction into county institution and child abuse. His bond was set at $80,000.

Mr. Hoskins was charged with mfg/del/poss. meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on suspended license and child abuse. His bond was set at $60,000.

Miss Slack was charged with mfg/del/poss. meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of schedule III drugs and child abuse. Her bond was set at $80,000.

All three individuals are scheduled to appear in general sessions court on March 13, 2024.
