Son Charged in Arson of Disabled Father’s Home

A Lafayette man has been charged with arson after allegedly starting a fire in the crawl space of his disabled father’s home in 2023. 

According to the affidavit of complaint filed by Macon County Detective Byron Butcher, 30-year-old Troy ‘Hayden’ White intentionally started the fire underneath his father’s home on July 15, 2023.

The fire caused damage under the home and smoke damage inside the home on the main floor.

Butcher’s father, who is handicapped and bound to a wheelchair, was inside the residence at the time the fire was started.

TBI arson investigators later determined the fire was intentionally set.

Upon interviewing the father, he told officers his son, Hayden, confessed to him he had started the fire, telling him that he didn’t want to hurt his father or other members of the family, he just wanted to scare them.

Hayden was charged with aggravated arson on April 26, 2024 and given a bond of $100,000. He is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on May 22, 2024.
