A Lafayette mother is charged with aggravated child abuse & neglect after her 5-year-old, autistic child tested positive for methamphetamine.
According to the affidavit of complaints, dispatch advised local law enforcement to be on the lookout for a black Pontiac SUV, displaying a BMW license plate, that had fled from THP on June 5, 2025 around 7:45 p.m.
When Macon County deputies located the vehicle at a residence on Addison Hollow Rd., the female driver, later identified as 28-year-old Sara Marie Kittrell, was standing beside the vehicle with her two young children inside the vehicle.
Kittrell was detained for investigation and gave officers consent to search her vehicle.
A folded $20 bill containing a crystal-like rock, believe to be methamphetamine, was found during the search of Kittrell’s SUV.
Also located by officers were two glass pipes containing a white residue, and other various drug paraphernalia objects inside of a backpack located in the back of the vehicle.
Kittrell was transported to the Macon County Jail where she was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine.
Her two children were removed by the department of child services on July 6, 2024, and hair follicle tests were attempted on both children. A successful extraction of a hair follicle was completed for the 5-year-old male, but due to the extreme autism of the other child, a hair follicle was not able to be extracted.
On July 18, 2024 a hair follicle test was conducted on Ms. Kittrell.
On July 19, 2024, during a meeting with a Child Protective Investigation Team, Detective Robert Jacoby was presented with Kittrell’s case and the results of the hair follicle tests.
The 5-year-old’s hair follicle came back positive for methamphetamine, and Kittrell’s hair follicle test came back positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
Due to the nature of the crime, Kittrell was charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect under Haley’s Law. Her bond was set at $50,000, and she is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on August 7, 2024.
