House Fire on Hwy. 52 East
The Lafayette Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Highway 52 East, that heavily damaged a two-story wood frame house on Tuesday afternoon, August 26.
According to Fire Chief Todd Wagoner, upon arrival fire was coming out of a second story window and they were able to knock some of the fire down through that window. When the firefighters got air packs on, they entered the front door, and went upstairs to extinguish the fire.
Chief Wagoner said the fire damage was contained to the upstairs, however there was heavy smoke and water damage throughout the house.
There were 15 firefighters at the scene and the department utilized Engine #2 and Tanker #29.
The Red Boiling Springs Fire Department responded to a mutual aid call and they sent an engine and three firefighters.
“At this point, I have determined the cause of the fire to be an electrical overload,” said Chief Wagoner.
Firefighter Kip West was in charge of the scene.
The Red Cross was called to assist the family.
