Former Macon County Teacher Indicted on Four Counts of Solicitation of a Minor

A former Macon County teacher has been indicted on four counts of solicitation of a minor.

In a sealed indictment filed on June 2, 2025, Colby Tyson Jones, age 48, was charged with one count of Solicitation of Minor: Especially Aggravated Sexual Exploitation of Minor, one count of  Solicitation of Minor: Aggravated Sexual Exploitation, Solicitation of Minor: Sexual Activity Involving a Minor and one count of Solicitation of a Minor: Statutory Rape.

Jones was a teacher at various schools in Macon County for 25 years, which ended in 2023.

Count one of the indictment reads as follows:

The grand jurors of Macon County, Tennessee, duly empanelled and sworn upon their oath present that COLBY TYSON JONES on or about March 23, 2025 in Macon County, Tennessee and before the finding of this indictment, did unlawfully commit the offense of soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor by means of by means of oral, written or electronic communication, electronic mail or internet services, directly or through another, did intentionally command, request, hire, persuade, invite, or attempt to induce a person, to-wit: a minor child with date of birth ____, whom the person making the solicitation knows or should know is less then eighteen (18) years of age, to engage in conduct that, if completed, would have constituted the offense of Especially Aggravated Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated 39-17-1005, in violation of T. C. A. 39-13-528(a)(8), and against the peace and dignity of the State of Tennessee.

Count two of the indictment reads as follows:

The grand jurors of Macon County, Tennessee, duly empanelled and sworn upon their oath present that COLBY TYSON JONES on or about March 23, 2025 in Macon County, Tennessee and before the finding of this indictment, did unlawfully commit the offense of soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor by means of by means of oral, written or electronic communication, electronic mail or internet services, directly or through another, did intentionally command, request, hire, persuade, invite, or attempt to induce a person, to-wit: a minor child with date of birth ____, whom the person making the solicitation knows or should know is less then eighteen (18) years of age, to engage in conduct that, if completed, would have constituted the offense of Aggravated Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated 39-17-1004, in violation of T. C. A. 39-13-528(a)(13), and against the peace and dignity

of the State of Tennessee.

Count three of the indictment reads as follows:

The grand jurors of Macon County, Tennessee, duly empanelled and sworn upon their oath present that COLBY TYSON JONES on or about March 23, 2025 in Macon County, Tennessee and before the finding of this indictment, did unlawfully commit the offense of soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor by means of by means of oral, written or electronic communication, electronic mail or internet services, directly or through another, did intentionally command, request, hire, persuade, invite, or attempt to induce a person, to-wit: a minor child with date of birth ____, whom the person making the solicitation knows or should know is less then eighteen (18) years of age, to engage in conduct that, if completed, would have constituted the offense of Sexual Activity Involving a Minor, pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated 39-13-529, in violation of T. C. A. 39-13-528(a)(9), and against the peace and dignity of the State of Tennessee.

Count four of the indictment reads as follows:

The grand jurors of Macon County, Tennessee, duly empanelled and sworn upon their oath present that COLBY TYSON JONES on or about March 23, 2025 in Macon County, Tennessee and before the finding of this indictment, did unlawfully commit the offense of soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor by means of by means of oral, written or electronic communication, electronic mail or internet services, directly or through another, did intentionally command, request, hire, persuade, invite, or attempt to induce a person, to-wit: a minor child with date of birth ____, whom the person making the solicitation knows or should know is less then eighteen (18) years of age, to engage in conduct that, if completed, would have constituted the offense of Statutory Rape, pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated 39-13-506, in violation of T. C. A. 39-13-528(a)(7), and against the peace and dignity of the State of Tennessee.

Jones’ bond was set at $50,000 and he is scheduled to appear in criminal court on June 13, 2025.
