Tigers recognize Seniors on Friday
It was Senior Day for members of the Class of 2026 at the Macon County baseball field. They played that home game on Friday Apr 17.
The Tigers recognized seniors Gage Jones, Roman Brawner, Matthew Wheeley, Chase Keene, and Hayden Dean and their parents in a ceremony before the game. We wish these young men the best in their future endeavors.
The Clay County Bulldogs were looking to avenge a loss the previous weekend when they came to Lafayette on Apr 17. After giving up two runs in the top of the first inning, Macon would tie the game with two in the first then proceeded to score six in the second, five in the third, and one in the fourth. The Tigers would win the five-inning game by a score of 14-3.
Ty Bilbrey got the win on the mound. He threw three innings and allowed four hits and one earned run with three strikeouts. Keenan White threw two innings of relief and allowed one hit. Jake Meador was 3 of 4 scoring three runs, Hayden Dean was 3 for 3 with three RBIs, and Matthew Cheeley was 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Emmerson McClard, Carson Brawner, Chase Keene, Roman Brawner, and Eli Carver all had hits in the win.
Earlier on Monday Apr 13 DeKalb County came to Lafayette. DeKalb was able to jump out to an early lead and Macon just couldn’t get their offense going. DeKalb gets their first district win 7-3 over Macon.
Collecting hits were Dean, Meador, McClard, Jones, Bilbrey and Carver. Wheeley started the game and threw five innings allowing seven hits and four earned runs with 10 strikeouts. Gunner Carlisle and White both threw one inning of relief.
The next day Macon made the return trip to DeKalb County. Once again DeKalb jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Macon was able to tie the game 4-4 in the fourth then plate three in the fifth and four in the sixth inning on their way to an 11-4 victory.
Eli Carver got the win on the mound as he hurled five innings allowing six hits, three earned runs with five strikeouts. Roman Brawner came in to pitch two innings giving up no hits and no runs. Bilbrey (HR), Wheeley (three RBIs), Jones, and Dean all had two hits in the contest. Meador, McClard, Carson Brawner, and Keene also had one hit each.
This week will end district competition. Macon is scheduled to travel to Central Magnet on Apr 20, travel to Watertown on Apr 21, then host DeKalb County on Apr 23. This will determine the seeding heading into the post-season tournament. Macon will finish up the week hosting Trousdale County on Apr 24.
