How tragic that the two most honest, fair, and likable people in television news and Washington politics have left us. How sad that two men who always played by the rules, were unaffected by their elevated status, and lived such good yet ordinary lives gave us the most unbiased views of the often dirty game of politics. Snow handled his illness with the same dignity and grace that made him a favorite of all political parties. And, like Tim Russert, we may not see his kind again. With that said, let’s get…right to it.
Are Democratic voters beginning to have voter’s remorse about Barack Obama? This guy has made a seismic shift to the center faster than you can say, “pander”! Liberals have to be doing back flips after Obama voted FOR the FISA (Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act) bill that he and many of his colleagues have criticized for years. "Given the legitimate threats we face, providing effective intelligence collection tools with appropriate safeguards is too important to delay. So I support the compromise, but do so with a firm pledge that as president, I will carefully monitor the program," Obama said after the House approved the legislation 293-129. Yo, people! This is exactly what President Bush has done from the start! In fact, there has not been a single violation of an innocent person’s rights since the Bush administration enacted provisions of FISA after September 11, 2001. Obama has also flipped on his promise to abide by the agreement he made last fall to accept federal campaign financing along with John McCain. Obama was so cocksure that he would have more than enough campaign cash on hand that he wouldn’t need the federal funds. Now comes July and campaign contributions seem to be slowing dramatically and since he has already lost his shot at federal funding, this could get interesting! Many of Hillary Clinton’s big money supporters have yet to swallow the Obama Kool-Aid. There are many disenchanted Democrats who feel Hillary got bounced unfairly and they are still seething, especially now after the abundant flips that Obama has made. The following are a few more of the most egregious of his “reversals”.
Obama has flipped on his opinion of union endorsements, calling them “special interest money”, as witnessed during John Edwards’ campaign. He now refers rather demurely to unions as the representatives of "working people" and says he is "thrilled" by their support. He has also flipped on his support of the Cuban embargo, first saying that would remove it and now saying that he would not. Obama was asked if the government should crack down on businesses that hire illegal immigrants. He replied that he would oppose such a measure. Then, in a January 2008 debate, he said, "We do have to crack down on those employers that are taking advantage of the situation." When running for the Illinois senate, he told college students that he supported eliminating criminal penalties for marijuana use. Then in an October 2007 presidential debate, he joined other Democratic candidates in opposing the decriminalization of marijuana. This guy has no core beliefs other than the ones we have come to see as really consistent: his elitist demeanor and his growing swagger as he tries to distance himself from the religious and political radicals, such as domestic terrorist William Ayers and Reverend Jeremiah Wright, that he has befriended for decades. Watch out, voters, this has only just begun.
One of my favorite conservative voices, economist Dr. Thomas Sowell, has this to say: “Voting is a right but it is also a duty-a duty not just to show up on election day, but a duty to give serious thought to the alternatives on the table and what those alternatives mean for the future of the nation. What is becoming ever more painfully apparent is that too many people this year- whether conservative, liberals or whatever- are all too willing to judge Barack Obama on the basis of his election-year rhetoric, rather than on the record of what he has advocated and done during the past two decades.” I feel there are too many Obama supporters who are voting for him based on his magnetic persona and not on his ridiculous lack of experience. Sowell also says that because many Republicans, and Senator John McCain in particular, have alienated so many conservatives because of their lack of adhering to conservative principles, some are now looking to Obama. “Yet Obama has consistently aided and abetted people who have openly expressed their contempt for this country, both in words and in such deeds as planting bombs to advance their left-wing agenda.” Obama has complained loudly that painting him with “guilt by association” is wrong, but he has also “donated some serious money of his own and even more of the taxpayers' money, as both a state senator in Illinois and a member of the Senate of the United States to these radicals”, says Sowell. “Barack Obama is on record as favoring the kinds of justices who make policy, not just carry out laws. No matter how he may "refine" his position on this issue, he voted against the confirmation of Chief Justice John Roberts, who was easily confirmed by more than three-quarters of the Senators.” Obama is truly the most left wing politician in Washington and his sudden move to the center should be a red flag for all of us.
Random ramblings: Nutcracker sweet…Jesse Jackson let it all hang out when he offered to emasculate Barack Obama surgically... Tennessee’s Speaker of the House Jimmy Naifeh lied about having a gun permit… yet another Democrat that says one thing about guns then does another!
See ya next week!
