And no matter what region we live in, no matter where it is we come from, the universal concept of Independence Day hangs thick in the air, envelops all of us and paints its message across our night skies.
There is something poetic about it, something inspiring about the Fourth of July.
Perhaps it’s the gathering of friends and family and the heavy aroma of charcoal that moves us, or maybe it’s that moment, when we look to our right and our left and see the upturned faces of the people we love, illuminated by a celebration of fireworks, and feel thankful for the opportunities we’ve been given, the freedoms that many of us take for granted everyday and those that dedicated their lives to ensure those freedoms.
On Independence Day, even the laughter of children at a family barbecue sounds just a bit sweeter, the idea that their dreams can be big, their opportunites endless and their futures full of possibilities, realized and echoed in each tiny giggle.
As we celebrate the birthday of our beloved country, it’s those small and often overlooked liberties that surface, instilling a sense of pride in our hearts and sparking a higher lever of patriotism within.
And every year, as we find ourselves surrounded by the people who mean the most to us, celebrating the independence of the country we call home, may we all find that moment, that instant under the night sky, when we turn to our right and our left and feel an overwhelming sense of appreciation wash over us, thankful for the freedoms that define our country and the endless possibilities that it offers.
