10-15 Thefts in Three Counties: Two Arrested

By Jessie Williams

Two men have been charged thus far in theft cases that spread across Macon, Trousdale and Smith Counties.

According to Chief Deputy Bryon Satterfield, the Macon County Sheriff’s Department has been investigating a number of thefts from storage units and residences.

During the investigation, information was established by deputies and detectives that led them to a residence on Old Bottom Road in Macon County.

Deputies Jacob McClard and Brian Emberton, Lieutenant Darrell Taylor and Sheriff Mark Gammons arrived at the scene, and a search of the property was conducted.

A number of stolen items were recovered including guns, assorted tools, radios, a large rolling toolbox, an AC unit, refrigerators, costume jewelry and family photos.

The stolen property was seized by the Macon County Sheriffs Office so that owners could be established.

Officer Satterfield estimates the items belong to as many as 15 victims in Smith, Trousdale and Macon counties.

Detectives Shane Gregory and Kevin Templeton assisted in continuing the investigation and were able to establish two suspects – 24-year-old Jessie Newberry and 28-year-old Corey Manier.

Newberry was charged with five counts of burglary, two counts of aggravated burglary, five counts of possession of stolen property and five counts of vandalism. His bond is set at $33,000.

Chronicle readers may recognize Newberry’s name from last week’s issue, which included a story about his arrest for allegedly wrecking his truck, abusing his girlfriend, leaving the scene, trespassing and stealing gas.

Manier was charged with aggravated burglary and theft of property. His bond was set at $30,000.

Additional charges and arrests are expected in this ongoing investigation.

Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons would like to thank all of the officers who assisted in this case.
