Macon County Senior High 4-H members (Left to Right) Zachary Goad, Amber Naramore, Luci Allen, and Raymond Sullivan participated recently in the State 4-H Land Judging Contest.

The contest was held in Cookeville, Tennessee at Hyder-Burks Agricultural Pavilion. The team evaluated four land sites based on various soil textures, rock fragments, erosion, suitability for crops and home sites. The members also had to calculate slope of the land for those four land sites and also do calculations to determine available water holding capacity of the soil. The contest was very challenging with tough competition from across the state. The team placed 3rd in the 4-H division with a score of 999. Zachary Goad was high individual with a score of 364 out of 400. The team wishes to place in the top two next year and earn a trip to Oklahoma City for the national contest.
