A three-vehicle accident occurred late Wednesday afternoon, July 22nd, on Highway 52, near Westside School, closing the road for six hours.

Jonathan Huls, Sr., of Manchester, Tennessee, lost control of his eighteen-wheeler as he was heading east on Highway 52, crossing over the center line into the west bound lane of traffic striking two automobiles.

He first struck a 2003 Toyota UVS driven by Mrs. Joan Carter, of Lafayette, knocking her vehicle down an embankment, trapping her inside, and then he side swiped Donald Underwood, of Old Hickory, Tennessee, who was driving a 2008 Pontiac Vibe.

Mrs. Carter, who was extracted from her car by the Macon County Rescue Squad, was transported by ambulance to Sumner Regional Hospital in Gallatin, Tenn., and Mr. Underwood and Mr. Huls were both uninjured.
Mr. Huls was issued a due care law citation.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol, Mark Gammons and the Macon County Sheriff’s Department, Macon County EMS and the Lafayette Fire Department responded to the scene.
