Scheduled for this Saturday, September 12th, the 16th Annual Family Fitness Festival will have events for everyone including an obstacle course, a jr. bike rodeo, and a fun run. A 5K race and a three-mile walk will be held plus bike tours varying in lengths with 10, 33, and the longest at 66 miles with events beginning at 7:30 a.m. through 10 a.m. Special events will be scheduled for the challenged, and Coordinated School Health Director Jackie Sircy encourages you to come out to the Macon County Junior High School and participate. “We will have something available for every age group,” remarked Sircy, “welcoming the very young to senior citizens of all ages.”
“We also hope to have a climbing wall this year.”
Sumo wrestling is an exciting new event where participants will wear inflatable outfits while they join in on the laughter and fun.
Happy the Healthy Hound, Nancy the Nutritious Apples, and Power Panther will be there to remind students and adults alike about the importance of fitness and nutrition.
Those wishing to ride in any of the bike events must bring their own bike and a helmet in order to participate.
Pre-registered participants will receive a Makin’ Macon Fit t-shirt. If you have questions call Stacey Brawner at 666-2147 or Shelia Shrum at 666-2151.
Registration forms can be turned in to Citizens Bank, Macon Bank & Trust or Macon County General Hospital, or to teachers at school. Runners and bike riders may also register online at www.active.com. Fees for the events range from $6 up to $25.
“If a child wishes to participate and is financially unable, they may return the sign-up form to a teacher with ‘unable to pay’ noted,” commented Sircy, “and everyone that wants to will be able to participate.”
