To celebrate the season, merchants on the Lafayette Square are extending an invitation to everyone to join them for the first-ever Fall Funfest on the Square set for Saturday, October 24th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

During the afternoon event, a variety of fall-inspired activities are scheduled at no cost for children and adults, including hayrides, storytelling, face painting, apple bobbing, photos with your favorite fall characters, musical entertainment, pumpkin painting and a Halloween costume contest.

In the spirit of the season of giving, $500 in cash will also be given away to present drawing and contest winners, and each of the local businesses participating in the event will offer special Fall Funfest deals and discounts to consumers.

The pumpkin painting contest will take place at Citizens Bank on the square from noon until 2 p.m., with judging at 2 p.m. First, second and third place winners will be awarded.

Costume contest judging will take place at 2:30 p.m. on the courthouse lawn.

Apple bobbing will be featured all day long at Gibson’s Cafe and storytelling will be held at McClard’s Gifts at 11:30 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m.
Macon Bank & Trust will be handing out free balloons all day long and the Chronicle will be providing free photos and facepainting on the courthouse lawn.

Participating businesses include the Macon County Chronicle, Johnson’s Jewelers, Cathy’s Flowers & Gifts, Indigo Blues, Macon Department Store, Gibson’s Café, Macon Bank & Trust, Citizens Bank, Eden’s Knives, McClards Gifts, Traditions and Frame-It.

A variety of pumpkins, fall décor and seasonal produce will also be sold during the event by Polly and Dennis Brawner of the Brawner Pumpkin Patch, who are graciously donating pumpkins for the childrens’ pumpkin painting contest. Jimmy Davis will be providing the free hayrides.
