Hit & Run on Public Square

Crash! Boom! Bang! Captain Ray Amalfitano and Officer Henry Behr, of the Lafayette Police Department, and Ginger Gibson, of Gibson’s Café, were baffled last Tuesday night, January 19, when a badly damaged, unoccupied automobile, which seemed to have literally dropped out of the sky, was leaning against the fire hydrant on the sidewalk in front of Cathy’s Florist, within inches of the front door.

Apparently, the 2008 gold Chevy Impala, which belongs to Gary D. Holland, of 507 Greenwood Drive, here in Lafayette, had been legally parked on the north side of the square, when a hit & run driver traveling west across the public square in an eighteen wheeler, struck the vehicle knocking it several feet before it came to rest on the sidewalk in front of Cathy’s Florist, and continued west on College Street. According to an eye- witness, the driver came to stop in front of the movie theater, but suddenly drove off again.

Charges are pending and Patrolman Henry Behr, of the Lafayette Police Department, was the investigating officer. Anyone with information please contact the LPD at 666-4725.
