On Sunday, March 28th, at 12:00 P.M., the Macon County Sheriffs Department responded to the scene of a possible DOA on Murray Hill Lane, here in Lafayette, where they discovered the body of a 20-year-old female in a nearby pond.
The woman, was has been identified as Misty Scott, was discovered by her husband, Cody Scott, who went looking for his missing wife, after an alleged domestic disturbance earlier in the day.
According to the department’s report, Scott pulled his wife’s lifeless body to the shore and ran to a neighbor’s house to call 911. Upon arrival, the MCSD immediately secured the scene and notified the EMS, who transported the young woman to Macon County General Hospital, then to the medical examiner’s office in Nashville for an autopsy.
“Cody Scott was brought in for questioning but later released,” said MCSD Detective Darrell Taylor, on Monday afternoon, March 28th, “and we are currently gathering information from various family and friends.”
“I was contacted late Sunday afternoon, requesting I notify the TBI to assist Mark Gammons and his department in the investigation,” said District Attorney Tommy Thompson, when contacted by telephone on Monday the 28th. “I also made a trip to the Justice Center in Lafayette, to touch bases with the sheriff and to see if I could be of further assistance in the death probe of the young victim.”
Misty Scott and her husband, who are the parents of two small children, shared a home on Murray Hill Lane, about a quarter of a mile up the road from the pond.
