Domestic Dispute Turns Violents

On Monday morning, May 24th, around 1:30 a.m., the Macon County Sheriffs Department responded to the scene of an alleged domestic altercation in progress on the New Harmony Road at the bottom of the hill, three miles outside of the Lafayette city limit.

According to an early report, 37-year-old Maggie Jo Billenstein, of 2612 Old Hwy. 52, was driving a 1993 Chevy S-10 Pickup and a verbal argument got out of hand resulting in an unidentified male passenger exiting the vehicle. She allegedly proceeded to violently bum him with the truck and drag him down the road causing personal injury, before veering off the roadway and landing in a ditch. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found the male subject lying in the road next to the truck, battered and bruised, and after he was stabilized at the scene he was transported to Macon County General Hospital, with his condition unknown at press time.

The female suspect was arrested at the site and transferred to the Macon County Justice Center, located on Highway 52 By Pass East, where she was charged with Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Domestic Assault by Deputy Kyle Petty, after being arrested and released just two days prior for cruelty to animals. Her bond was set at $5,000 and she is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on Wednesday, June 23rd.

Those responding to the scene included the Macon County Sheriffs Department, EMS, Lafayette Fire Department, Macon County Rescue Squad, and the Macon County Chronicle.
