A two-vehicle accident claimed the life of a Trousdale County man on Sunday, July 4th, around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 52 West and Oakdale Road.

Walter Henry Rhoades, Jr., age 50, of Hartsville, Tennessee, was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound toward Westmoreland, when a late model Chevy SUV made a left turn at Oakdale Road directly into his path. The driver, Jonathan David Blankenship, age 38, of Lafayette, didn’t see the oncoming vehicle and even though both drivers attempted to stop, unfortunately they made contact. CPR was performed on Rhoades at the scene, but he died enroute to Macon County General Hospital.

Blankenship, his wife, and two young children were uninjured, although the family was visibly shaken. The wreck was just a tragic accident and no charges were filed.

Trooper Danny Fisher, of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, was the investigating officer with assistance from Sgt. Ashley Mercer and the Macon County Sheriffs Department.

Those responding to the scene included the EMS, Macon County Rescue Squad, THP, MCSD, and the Macon County Chronicle.

Funeral arrangements were unavailable at presstime.
