The Lafayette Municipal Airport, which is located at 1000 Airport Road, two miles west of the downtown area, has recently been leased by CKC Adventures LLC, with owners Jerry and Crystal Cherry, proudly fulfilling a life-long dream.
“The Lafayette Municipal Airport, like many other general aviation airports,” said 38-year-old Cherry, “serves as an important hub for businesses operating in the state, and for shipping. Our goal is to provide a professional and courteous first impression of Macon County, hopefully to impress various executives who fly in to look for areas to start new businesses, that could potentially create jobs.”
Jerry, who was born and raised just outside of Red Boiling Springs, graduated from MTSU in 1996, with a degree in Aerospace. He has taught flying across Tennessee, flew freight for a small company out of Nashville and spent ten years with an airline as a pilot, instructor pilot and check airman.
“The airport, which is owned by the City of Lafayette, is the gateway to the community,” Cherry remarked, “and part of our vision for the future is to enhance the airport so that the city can make money as well. Also, when we leased the facility we opened a Fixed Base Operation (FBO) and we will soon by opening a flight school, which we hope will spark more interest in the Lafayette Municipal Airport.”
“We are going to offer aircraft rentals, along with maintenance and fuel services, and the City of Lafayette is going to build ten new hangers, with construction to begin this fall.”
“We appreciated Dr. Warren Rose bringing a local church group to the airport last Saturday afternoon, July 10th, for a cookout and planes rides, which helped to make area residents more aware of aviation in Macon County. We are planning an Open House on Saturday, September 18th, and we would like to invite the community and business owners as well to stop by and enjoy refreshments, and check out the planes along with information concerning how beneficial the airport can be to them and the town. We will also offer something special for the kids.”
Jerry and his wife, Crystal are the proud parents of three young daughters and he is an Assistant Minister at the Red Boiling Springs Church of Christ. For more information concerning the airport, log onto www.flycke.com or call 666-6542.
