At the close of the polls on Monday, July 19, a total of 787 votes had been cast at the Macon County Election Commission during the first few days of the early voting period for the Macon County August 5th General Election.
According to a report by Macon County Administrator of Elections Tammy Smith, 342 (includes 4 absentee votes) of those early votes were counted the first day of early voting on Friday, July 16th, with 94 more early votes cast on Saturday, July 17th. On Monday, July 19th, 275 (includes 4 absentee votes) additional votes were tallied. A total of 76 votes were counted between June 28 and July 15 (45 early voters, 31 absentee votes).
While it’s unclear yet if Macon County has set a new turnout record for early voting, it is evident that county residents are taking advantage of the early voting period, which will end on July 31st.
