A 40-year-old Trousdale County man has been charged with DUI and four counts of Vehicular Assault in connection with a two-vehicle accident that occurred on Wednesday night, July 21st, at the intersection of Highway 52 West and Oakdale Road.Thomas Burnley McKee, of Hartsville, who was behind the wheel of an older model GMC pickup truck, was southbound on Oakdale Road when he ran the stop sign at the intersection of Highway 52. Deborah Shrum, of Rock Springs Road in Bethpage, was traveling northbound on Oakdale in a 2003 Envoy SUV, and after yielding the stop sign, she made a left hand turn toward Westmoreland and was struck by McKee on the passenger’s side knocking her vehicle off the shoulder of the road into the grass.
According to Sgt. Ashley Mercer, of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, who was the investigating officer, the three passengers in McKee’s truck and the driver of the SUV were injured, with Mary Louise Ward and Teresa Marshall transported to Macon County General Hospital by the EMS and Cynthia Cates Watson along with Deborah Shrum transported to Sumner Regional Medical Center, in Gallatin, Tennessee. McKee was also sent to MCGH and after being released, he was transferred to the Macon County Jail, where he was formerly charged and booked.
Those responding to the scene included the Macon County Sheriffs Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Macon County EMS, Sumner County EMS, Rescue Squad, and the Macon County Chronicle.
Thomas McKee’s bond was set at $9,000 and a General Sessions Court date has been set for Wednesday, August 25th.
