School Board Freezes Out-of-County Enrollment

When the Macon County Board of Education members met in regular session on Thursday, October 7th, they decided to freeze out-of-town enrollment due to the crowded conditions in the Macon County School System. A motion was made by John Wheeley and seconded by Steve Walton to revise Policy 6.204 Attendance on Non-Resident Students with the amendment that all Board employees’ children are grandfathered in, which passed on first reading.

Also added to the table, was the motion, that all political signs located on school property, only be allowed at poll sites the day of election and all candidates are responsible for removing the signs, with members agreeing unanimously.

The various postings for the new certified positions during the 2010- 2011 school year include: Cynthia Hudson-Adult Education Instructor/Data Entry (part-time) effective 10-11 SY; Kelly Blackwood-MCHS Assistant Cheerleading Coach effective 10-11 SY; Dustin McKinney-RBSHS Assistant Boys Basketball Coach and RBSJH Head Boys Basketball Coach 10-11 SY; Robbie Trent-Westside 4th Grade (interim) effective 09-24-10; Nickie West-RBSJH Assistant Girls Basketball Coach effective 10-11 SY. Non-certified positions are: Stephanie Schroeter-MCHS SPED Teacher Assistant effective 09-08-10; Brittany Blankenship-MCHS Volunteer Cheerleading Coach effective 10-11 SY; Kimberlin Baskett-Interim Bus Driver (p.m. route) for Bob Fitzpatrick effective 09-07-10; Mike Frye-Westside SPED Teacher Assistant effective 09-16-10; Josh Robinson-Maintenance effective 10-11-10. Substitutes Hired: Edmundo Chaparro, Carol Chaparro,Tabitha Coffee, Kim Collins, Ethan Cowan, Julie Dulworth, Angela Heatherly, Chrissy Jenkins, Doris Jenkins, Alecia King, Whitney Shrum, and Stacy Swindle. Resignations: Jason Welch, 5th/6th Grade Girls Basketball Coach effective 09-10-10; Kathy Haney-SPED Teacher Assistant effective 10-01-10; and Chelsea Clark-MCHS Head Softball Coach effective 10-04-10.

Motion by Birdwell and seconded by Wheeley to adjourn. The next scheduled Macon County Board of Education meeting is at Red Boiling Springs High School on Thursday, November 11th, 2010 at 6:00 p.m.
