The Macon County Chronicle and all of your Lafayette merchants on the Square graciously request your presence at this year’s ‘Christmas on the Square’ event, set for Saturday, November 13th, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Kicking off the evening, a tree lighting ceremony and musical entertainment, provided by Kim Marsh, Randy East, Eric Cotton, Brenda Blankenship, Cherry Cole, Ann Marie Brown and Brian Best, will take place on the courthouse lawn at 4 p.m.
Several holiday inspired events are scheduled for both children and adults to enjoy, including holiday art projects, sponsored by the Macon County Arts Council, a coloring contest at the Macon County Chronicle office from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., storytelling by Sherry Massey at Macon Department Store at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. and by Mrs. McClard at McClard’s Gifts at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., face painting at the Macon County Chronicle office from 4:30 to 6 p.m., and carriage rides, visits from some of your favorite characters including Rudolph, Frosty, Mickey and Minnie, and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available throughout the evening. There is no cost to participate in any of the ‘Christmas on the Square’ events.
This year, a Christmas Princess and Prince will be crowned, following a drawing. To nominate the girl and boy of your choice (ages 6-12) fill out the nomination form located inside this week's issue of the Macon County Chronicle and drop off forms at any of the participating businesse on the square from now until the day of the event. Nomination forms can also be picked up at any of the participating businesses.
In the spirit of the holiday season, $1,000 in cash giveaways will take place beginning at 6 p.m. with four $100 winners and again at 8 p.m. with one $50 winner, three $100 winners and one lucky $250 drawing winner. Winners must be present to collect prizes, and entries can be made by visiting the following participating merchants between 4 and 8 p.m.: Macon Department Store, Citizens Bank, All About Sports, Johnson Jewelers, Cathy’s Florist & Gifts, Macon Bank & Trust, McClard’s Gifts, Traditions Fabrics, the Macon County Chronicle, Indigo Blues, Gibson’s Café, Macon County General Hospital (booth in Macon County Chronicle office), Linda’s Cakes & Catering, the Macon County Courthouse, the Macon Count Sheriff’s Department (booth in Macon County Chronicle office) and Bob Storm.
Throughout the day, refreshments will be available at participating ‘Christmas on the Square’ businesses, where early holiday shoppers will find great bargains and specials.
