Serious Injuries Sustained in Monday Morning Motorcycle Wreck

A 45-year-old Macon County woman was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on Highway 52 By Pass East, across from Wal Mart, on Monday morning, November 8th, around 10:30 a.m.

Penny Baldwin, who is the Assistant Manager of Capitol Cash, located on the public square, here in town, was driving a 2002 silver Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on Hwy. 52 by pass, when an east bound 2008 Jeep, made a left turn at the car wash directly into her path. The driver, 74-year-old Vester Wilson, also of Macon County, didn’t see the oncoming vehicle, due to the glare of the sun, and the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Jeep.

Mrs. Baldwin was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center, in Nashville, Tennessee, suffering serious injuries including broken bones, severe road rash and a partially collapsed lung. Mr. Wilson was transported by private vehicle to Macon County General Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Patrolman Jeff Wix, of the Lafayette Police Department, was the investigating officer and no charges were filed.

Those responding to the scene included the Macon County EMS, Macon County Chronicle, Lafayette Fire Department, Macon County Rescue Squad, and the Lafayette Police Department.
