Officer Phil Harper, of the Macon County Sheriffs Department, arrested 39-year-old Scottie D. Turner and his wife, 36-year-old Bonita Beth Turner, during the early morning hours of Sunday, December 12th, after discovering ingredients used to manufacture methamphetamine in the couple’s vehicle during a routine traffic stop.
According to Macon County Sheriffs Department Detective Bill Cothron, the couple was stopped by Officer Harper on Cedar Bluff Rd., where Scottie was arrested for outstanding theft of property warrants and driving on a suspended license. The vehicle was towed to the Sheriffs Department after it was discovered that Bonita Turner’s license was also suspended.
While taking an inventory of items inside the vehicle, officers discovered all of the ingredients required to manufacture meth and evidence that the ingredients had been used to produce the drug.
Mr. Turner was charged with theft of property, driving on a suspended license, possession of drug paraphernalia and promotion of methamphetamine manufacture (2 cts.), and his bond was set at $76,000. Mrs. Turner was charged with possession of a Schedule VI drug, intoduction of drugs into a county institution, possession of drug paraphernalia and promotion of methamphetamine manufacture (2 cts.), and bond was set at $67,500. Both are scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on January 26, 2011.
