It has been a great season for the local girls basketball teams, as the Macon County High School Tigerettes and the Red Boiling Springs High School Lady Bulldogs basketball teams have secured their spot to appear in the TSSAA State Basketball Tournament.
“The last time we were in the State Tournament was in 2005-2006,” Head Lady Bulldog Basketball Coach Larry White commented this Monday afternoon, further explaining that he and his team were currently on a cloud and extremely excited about finally getting to prove what they are made of on the State level.
For the Macon County High School Tigerettes, their last performance at State has been a little further back, making their last appearance in 1993.
This year, the Tigerettes will be meeting Manassas High School for the first time in school history. Manassas comes to the State Tournament with a 25-5 season record and is ranked #15 in the State, which will be an interesting match against Macon County as they bring a 28-3 season record and is ranked #3 in the state.
The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs will be meeting Wayne County for the first time in school history. Wayne County is currently ranked #1 in the state, and brings a season record of 27-3 to the State Tournament. Red Boiling Springs is currently ranked #6 in the State according to CoachT.com and brings a season record of 31-5 to the opening game of the State competition.
The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs will play Wayne County in the Class A State Tournament on March 9 at 2:30 p.m. at MTSU in Murfreesboro, and the Macon County Tigerettes will play Manassas in the Class AA State Tournament on March 9 at 4 p.m. at MTSU in Murfreesboro.
The winners of Wednesday’s games will advance to the second round of the State Tournament on Friday, March 11, 2011.
If Red Boiling Springs can pull out another win, they will play on Friday at 11:30 a.m., with the State Championship game set for Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 2 p.m. Class A Participating teams include: Lake County (32-3), Red Boiling Springs (31-5), North Greene (28-8), Jackson County (30-3), Loretto (26-7), Scotts Hill (31-0), Cosby (26-5), and Wayne County (27-3).
