Driver in Police Chase Faces Numerous Charges

A 32-year-old Macon County man has been charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI, violation of implied consent, fleeing & evading, and unlawful possession of a weapon & weapon prohibited, in connection with a one vehicle accident that occurred on Wednesday night, March 2nd, on the Galen Road, near the Scottsville Road intersection.

Christopher Scott Wheeler, of 342 Pointe Lane, was behind the wheel of a 1991 red pickup truck when Officer Garrett Flatt, of the Lafayette Police Department, attempted to stop his vehicle near the Sonic Restaurant after he witnessed him driving in a reckless manor. After the suspect failed to stop, a pursuit ensued toward the public square and upon approaching the Galen Road, Wheeler made an aggressive left hand turn onto Galen and lost control causing an accident. The defendant was unsteady on his feet and couldn’t perform any sobriety tests, therefore he was placed under arrest by Patrolman Flatt and transported for booking.

A General Sessions court date has been set for April 20th.
