(NASHVILLE, TN), May 9, 2011 – State Senator Mae Beavers (R-Mt. Juliet) and Representative Terri Lynn Weaver (R-Lancaster) have announced the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s (TDOT) 2011 budget includes funds to improve Highway 10 in Macon County in Lafayette.  The lawmakers said funding for Phase I of the project is a major step forward to make Highway 10 safer.

“We are delighted that this project was included in Governor Haslam’s budget,” said Representative Weaver.  “We have informed Mayor Linville who is also pleased that we are moving forward.  This is a very dangerous highway where accidents occur almost weekly.”

The first phase of the project is to improve 1.7 miles at the intersection of Highway 10 and Highway 52, which includes the right-of-way acquisition needed to proceed with the project.

“Right now, TDOT is working with the right of way acquisition,” added Senator Beavers.  “We are very pleased that the funding is there to do this project.  It will be a huge safety factor for local residents.   We will continue to monitor and push for completion of this project moving forward.”
