Man Arrested for First Degree Murder

A Lafayette man has been charged with one count of first-degree murder after being indicted during a special session of the Macon County grand jury.

Johnny Swack, age 52, was arrested on Friday and charged with shooting his former wife, 36-year-old Reinalda Ann Dupont England, in the face with a pistol at 412 Meador Drive on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, according to a report by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

According to Chief Ray Amalfitano, of the Lafayette Police Department, the initial investigation began last Wednesday morning, when Swack called 911 and reported that his former wife had been shot. “Upon arriving at the scene,” the Chief stated, “we found the body of a woman in the bedroom, and after we assessed the situation and secured the area, we began treating it as a possible homicide, therefore I notified the TBI and the district attorney’s office.”

Macon County Medical Examiner Randall Kirby subsequently pronounced the woman dead at the scene and her body was transported to Nashville for an autopsy.

Johnny Swack was later picked up at an undisclosed location in the west side of the county and served with a warrant. He is being held without bond in the Macon County Jail and there will be a hearing on September 26th in front of Judge John Wootten.

Currently the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Lafayette Police Department, the District Attorney’s Office and the Macon County Sheriffs Department are investigating this case.
