Crash Kills One, Injures Three

The accident occurred around 1:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, March 2nd, several miles outside of Red Boiling Springs on Drag Strip Road.

All four victims were flown by medical helicopter to Vanderbilt Medical Center, with Life Flight transporting three from the scene and Air Evac carrying one from the base in Lafayette.

Fisher stated that Earl Wilkerson, of Clay County, was driving southbound on Drag Strip Road in a Ford Taurus, when a northbound Chevy pickup crossed the center line and hit his automobile head on. Three occupants were in the truck including James Bristow, Terry Dyer II, and Lance Grooms, all of Red Boiling Springs. Mr. Wilkerson died at Vanderbilt Hospital later that afternoon.

According to Fisher the cert team was called in and the scene was finally cleared around 6:30. Responders included the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Clay County Sheriffs Department, Macon County EMS, Red Boiling Springs Fire & Rescue, and the Macon County Chronicle.

Vanderbilt media spokesperson Ashley Culver confirmed on Monday morning that James Bristow and Lance Grooms are listed in stable condition and Terry Dyer has been released.

Funeral services for Mr. Earl Radford Wilkerson, age 91, of the Union Hill Community in Clay County, were held Monday, March 5, at Upton Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Carson officiating. Interment followed in the Wilkerson Family Cemetery.

Mr. Wilkerson was a farmer and an Army Veteran of World  War II.
