The 18th Annual Macon County Relay For Life Event is scheduled for Friday night, June 1st, and this year’s committee is proud to announce that former news anchor and TV personality Terri Merryman and her husband, Channel 4 News Anchor Alan Frio, will co-host the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
A Macon County native, Terri graduated from MCHS in 1974 and went on to become a popular anchor, reporting news in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, and WSMV Channel 4 in Nashville. Growing up in rural Tennessee, many folks may remember when WEEN’s Bill Speck gave her the opportunity to anchor the news on the radio when she attended MCHS. Terri is a southern girl, with a down home personality and a quick wit which definitely appeals to a crowd.
Merryman was educated at the University of Tennessee, while her husband, Alan Frio, majored in Communications at Temple University in his native Philadelphia.
“Alan and I didn’t anchor together until we came to Nashville,” Merryman said, “as a matter of fact he anchored for the competitor while I was in Philadelphia and in Los Angeles.
When Terri left Philadelphia to go to Miami, Alan left Philadelphia to go to the nationally syndicated show “Hard Copy”, and at this point the couple had still not seen each other in person.
“We both worked all over the country until we finally landed in Los Angeles where a mutual reporter friend, who worked at both stations, introduced us,” smiled Merryman. “And two yeas later, we married on the beach in Maui, Hawaii, in January of 2001.”
Terri Merryman is presently a ghostwriter for news makers and celebrities, a content producer/anchor/consultant for Webb NEWS, and a media coach.
Alan Frio is the current anchor of Channel 4’s newcasts at 5, 6 and 10:00 on the weekends. He has also anchored Channel 4’s morning show, Channel 4 News Today, Channel News at Noon and More At Midday since joining WSMV.
Terri and Alan enjoy similar interest and they own a horse farm on the Cumberland River in Trousdale County.
Terri Merryman will also be attending the 6:00 p.m. Survivor’s Supper on Tuesday night, May 22nd at the Sally Wells Building located on the Macon County Fairgrounds.
