The unofficial City of Lafayette Municipal Election results are in, naming Richard F. Driver the winner of the Mayoral race with 343 votes.
Driver received 55.23 percent of the total 621 votes cast in the mayoral election.
Richard is a 1971 graduate of Macon County High School and attended Tennessee Technology University in Cookeville, Tennessee, where he received a BS degree in Industrial Technology in 1976.
He is currently president of Driver Construction Group, Inc. in Lafayette, and is an affiliate broker with Coley Real Estate and Auction also in Lafayette. He is a member of the Macon County Chamber of Commerce, the Sumner Association of Realtors and the Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church.
Richard has lived in Lafayette for over 50 years, and says he plans to improve the City in several ways.
“One of my goals is to clean-up the City in order to build a solid foundation for attracting new businesses and industry, while also helping our existing businesses,” he stated. “I want to preserve our community, but also help it to grow by introducing new leadership, new direction and new ideals to set the tone for the future of our city.”
“I want to thank each and every person who voted for me,” he added. “As Mayor, I will be working for the future of Lafayette and the Citizens of Lafayette.”
Richard and his wife Diane have one son, Benjamin, a junior at Tennessee Technology University in Cookeville, Tennessee.
Unofficial Mayoral Race Results: J.Y. Carter (incumbent) – 176 votes (28.34%), John Keller – 102 votes (16.43%).
In the race for three City Council seats, Roger Russell, Pam Cothron and Tom Roberts won the majority of the total 1,633 votes.
Unofficial City Council Race Results: Roger Russell – 387 votes (23.7%), Pam Cothron – 377 votes (23.09%), Tom Roberts – 256 (15.68%), Richard Bransford – 234 votes (14.33%), Ron Morey – 224 votes (13.72%), Loryn Atwell – 154 votes (9.43%).
The election results will be certified on Thursday, May 10th. The incoming City Mayor and three City Council members will be sworn in on Thursday, May 31st.
