As the holiday season traditionally kicks off, the Macon County Chamber of Commerce has announced that Mrs. Brownie Barton has been selected as the Grand Marshal of the 2012 Christmas Parade, scheduled for Saturday, December 1, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Brownie is an active member and former President of the Macon County Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Lions/Lioness Club, and a former volunteer with the Macon County Chapter of the American Red Cross. She is affiliated wit Relay For Life, and was a member and president of the now dissolved Financial Women International.
Mrs. Barton was born and raised in the Frog Pond Community of Macon County, and she is a graduate of Macon County High School. Brownie and her husband, Carroll Barton, have two children: Greg Barton of Hartsville and Jennifer Horne of Lafayette. They also have seven grandchildren.
An employee at Citizens Bank for 42 years, Brownie previously worked at Imperial Reading. She is a member of the Union Camp Missionary Baptist Church and she participated in various school activities when her children were growing up.
“I love Macon County and being a part of the community,” Brownie said. “I am honored to be chosen as this year’s Grand Marshal of the Macon County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade.”
The parade will line up at 11:30 at Sunshine Market. The participants will travel down the by pass, take a left turn at Citizens Bank onto College Street and proceed around the square and out to Jr. Foods on the Scottsville Road, where it will disband. This year’s theme is “A Cartoon Christmas.”
