The Macon County Board of Education met in special session last Thursday, March 6, voting 4-1 to nominate Tony Boles as the new Director of Macon County Schools.
Board members voted by paper ballot with Steve Walton reading off each vote. The three nominees for the position were Boles, Shawn Carter and Matt Eldridge. Four votes were cast for Boles, and one vote was cast for Carter.
The school board will next meet with an attorney to look at examples of other county’s director of schools contracts before drawing up their own to present to Mr. Boles.
The contract can be for anywhere between one and four years.
Boles is currently serving as a County Commissioner for District 12 in Red Boiling Springs. He is also a science teacher at Red Boiling Springs High School.
“I’m excited to get to work in this new position and do my best to continue leading our school system,” Boles told the Chronicle. “We’ve already got a good school system in place and I only hope to continue improving it.”
The school board will meet in regular session on Thursday, March 13, at Westside Elementary School at 7 p.m. A special called meeting has also been scheduled for Thursday, March 20, at 7 p.m. to review the director’s contract and approve the stadium bid.
