The 15th Judicial Drug Task Force in conjunction with the Lafayette Police Department and the Macon County Sheriffs Office launched “Operation Pill Box” in Macon County last Thursday, November 13, by rounding up individuals that have been indicted by the Grand Jury for various drug related charges.

Locally the round up involved the Lafayette Police Department, Macon County Sheriffs Office and the Red Boiling Springs Police Department. Also assisting were officers from the Trousdale County Sheriffs Office and the Smith County Sheriffs Office.

According to Lafayette Chief of Police Stacy Gann, there were approximately 65 indictments with the cases involving marijuana, methampetamine, morphine, and various prescription medications.

“The indictments were recently released,” said LPD Chief Gann, “and officers began rounding up the suspects who had been indicted last Thursday, November 13. Those charged were brought to the Lafayette Police Deparetment, which served as the operation headquarters, and information was gathered by the Drug Task Force, before they were tranported to the Macon County Justice Center for booking.”

Chief Gann said this investiation has been going on for 12 to 14 months and over half of the suspects had been picked up as of press time on Monday, November 17. “Warrants are still outstanding on some individuals and hopefully by the end of the month they will all be served. This is a continuing investigation.”

“This operation was successful because everyone worked well together,” added Gann, “and the various suspects were apprehended without incident as we strive to make Macon County a safer place to live and raise children. Anytime we can get drugs and the users off the streets it is a plus for our community.”
Gann said he is very proud of all the officers for their hard work and dedication to the war on drugs. “I appreciate the 15th Judicial Drug Task Forces’ hard work on this operation and I would like to thank Sheriff Mark Gammons & the Macon County Sheriffs Office, RBS Police, Trousdale County SO and Smith County SO for their cooperation. Hopefully we can continue to make cases and put these offenders where they belong.”
