On Wednesday, September 16th, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Macon County Sheriffs Office and other emergency personnel were called to Highway 52 West, where they found the wreckage of a deadly head-on collision near the Old Hwy. 52 intersection.

According to Official Wreck Investigator THP Trooper Justin Mote, 26-year-old Amy Aulick, of Lafayette, was driving east in a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer on Hwy. 52 West when she attempted to illegally pass a Chevy Silverado hauling cattle and struck a 2000 Mercury Sable head on. 36-year-old Michael Eugene “LIttle Toby” Scruggs, of Westmoreland, was behind the wheel of the Sable.

Mr. Scruggs was unresponsive at the scene but was resuscitated and flown by air ambulance to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Amy Aulick was transported to Skyline Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The front seat passenger in the Scruggs car was Kim Rogers who wasn’t hurt. The back seat passenger was a juvenile who was transported for medical treatment.

This is an on-going investigation and charges are pending.
