According to Lt. Jason Roberts, of the Lafayette Police Department, he was notified on Wednesday, December 9th, by a detective with the Macon County Sheriffs Office, that the man his department was looking for, Brad Welch, was at the Macon County Jail attempting to bond out the two female suspects LPD Officer Shane Reed had arrested in his car on December 5. “The Sheriffs Office served Officer Reed’s warrants on Brad Welch and he was taken into custody and booked into the Macon County Jail on weapon charges,” said Lt. Roberts.
As reported in last week’s edition of the Macon County Chronicle, on Saturday morning, December 5, a concerned citizen had reported a suspicious looking woman sitting in a dark blue NIssan Altima in the Walmart parking lot with a mask on.
When the Lafayette Police Department responded, Officer Shane Reed stated that when he drove by the described vehicle, he noticed a female sitting in the passenger side with something on her head that looked like a skull.
When the officer approached the vehicle he reported he could smell a strong odor of marijuana and he also noticed another female passenger in the back seat. Both females were ordered out of the car, so Officer Reed could search it. By this time other officers had arrived to assist Officer Reed.
The females were identified as 21-year-old Destiny Star Zeiman of Lebanon and 18-year-old Angela Renee Dieters of Murfreesboro.
During the search drugs were found along with a loaded short barreled shotgun and a loaded Raven Arms 25 cal pistol.
Both females, who had active warrants in other counties, were arrested and taken to the Macon County Jail.
Reed state that the male subject, identified as Brad Welch, who was driving the vehicle, remained inside Walmart and didn’t come out. Attempts were made to find him, but video evidence showed that he made it out of the store before officers could find him.
Brad Everett Welch has been charged with weapon: prohibited; and unlawful possession of a weapon. Bond is set at $25,000. A General Sessions Court date is set for February 17, 2016.
