The Lafayette Industrial Development Board has renogiated and approved the payment in lieu of taxes agreement for Fleetwood Homes expansion project.

According to City Mayor Richard Driver, “from my observation it appears the excavation phase of the expansion has begun and they are getting ready to move ahead with the project. However there is no time frame yet.”

As previously reported in the Macon County Chronicle during October, Mayor Driver said that Fleetwood Homes was discussing expanding the operation with a 20,000 square foot building, increasing production, and hiring 90 new employees during the next three years.

Mayor Driver explained that when Fleetwood Homes bought the land and built their buildings on Highway 52 By Pass West, it was deeded to the Lafayette Industrial Development Board for payment in lieu of taxes.

The Lafayette Industrial Board was scheduled to meet with Fleetwood Homes to discuss renogiating the payment in lieu of taxes agreement for the expansion, which has now been finalized.

“It’s always good to see local industries expanding, which means more jobs and that the economy is getting better,” said Mayor Driver. “The City of Lafayette is experiencing some growth and we are always looking for more jobs and opportunites for the folks here.”
