Drugs Contribute to Monday Wreck

altOn Monday afternoon, May 23, twenty-four-year-old Rodrell Watkins was operating a pickup truck on the Akersville Road, inside the Lafayette city limits, when he veered off the roadway, traveled thru a parking lot and hit a utility pole at the First Assembly of God.  

LPD Sgt. J.J. Ruiz was the wreck investigator.

According to Sgt. Ruiz, Watkins was driving on a revoked driver’s license and he admitted he was under the influence of drugs which contributed to the wreck.

Watkins indicated that he was using illegal drugs as well as prescription medication. He was transported by ambulance for treatment.

“Mr. Watkins will be facing criminal charges for his actions, pending the final outcome of the investigation,” said Sgt. Ruiz.

 Those responding to the scene were the Lafayette Police Department, Macon County Sheriffs Department, Macon County EMS, Lafayette Fire Department, Rescue Squad and the Macon County Chronicle.
