The Lafayette Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Macon County EMS and the Lafayette Fire Department answered an emergency dispatch late Wednesday afternoon, October 5, to a car vs. motorcycle wreck at the intersection of Oak Street and Highway 52 By Pass East, inside the Lafayette city limits.
According to investigator Sgt. Ashley Mercer, of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 17-year-old male juvenile was driving a 2008 Toyota Scion and was stopped at the intersection of Oak Street and Highway 52 By Pass East. Larry Doss, age 64, was operating a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Highway 52 in the slow lane. The juvenile driver attempted to cross Hwy. 52 onto Sneed Blvd. and struck the motorcycle.
The teenager wasn’t injured, however Doss was flown out by medical helicopter to Skyline Medical Center, where he died the next day.
The juvenile driver was cited for failing to yield right of way.
Funeral services for Larry Doss were conducted on Sunday, October 9, at 2 p.m. from the Anderson & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Lafayette with Elder Jeff Blackwell and Elder Joey Gregory officiating. Interment followed in the Anderson & Son Memorial Park.
Mr. Doss worked at Knollwood Manor in housekeeping and had also worked at Lafayette Manufacturing for over 20 years.
