The annual Macon County National Wild Turkey Hunting Heritage Banquet and Auction will be this Saturday at the Sally Wells Building at the Macon County Fairgrounds. This is the 18th year that the local organization has held their event and auction.
For the 6th year now we are also pleased to say that we are partnering with the MCHS Trap team to help them raise funds for their sport. Members of the team from Macon County High School will be on hand to help with the event so come on out and help support our local trap team.
The National Wild Turkey Federation is one of the leading conservation organizations in North America. One of the largest independent charity evaluators, Charity Navigator, gave the NWTF a 3 star rating and a top rating of 89.3%. This rating indicates the percent of the charity’s total expenses spent on the programs and services that it delivers. The website also gave the NWTF score of 96% for accountability and transparency, something that they have worked hard to improve in the past couple of years.
Established in 1973, the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) is a national conservation and hunting organization that, along with its volunteers, partners and sponsors, has worked for the conservation of the wild turkey and preservation of the hunting tradition. While wild turkey restoration is nearing completion, the NWTF still has much work to do. Across North America, supporters are working to enhance habitat for wild turkeys and other wildlife while providing hunters with more opportunities and access to public and private land. In addition, NWTF volunteers and partners are introducing youth, women and people with disabilities to the outdoors through special educational events.
Tickets for the event are available by calling Mark Darnell at 615-633-8767. Doors open at 5 pm. You can also get more information at www.nwtf.org by searching for a local event.
