A Lafayette man was arrested last week for his alleged involvement in at least four farm property thefts throughout Macon County.

According to Macon County Sheriff’s Department Detective Kevin Woodard, his office began receiving reports of stolen farm equipment around Macon County - including 20 weed eaters from one residence - in late August.

Through their investigation, detectives were able to identify the suspect as 50-year-old Randy Driver, and believed he may have pawned some of the stolen items in Sumner County.

With the assistance of the Gallatin Police Department, Detective Woodard says they were able to match up the serial numbers of items stolen from local farms to items pawned at a Gallatin pawn shop by Mr. Driver.

Recovered from the pawn shop were four weed eaters, two chainsaws and a $4,500 camera system. The items allegedly link Driver to a possible four thefts thus far.

At that time, a warrant was issued for Driver’s arrest.

Deputies found Driver sleeping in his vehicle on August 30, behind a house on Dixon Road.

He was charged with two counts of theft of property. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.

Mr. Driver’s bond was set at $30,000, and is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on September 25.
