Shot Fired in City Limits

The Lafayette Police Department arrested a male driver after he fired a shot at a vehicle in front of him, in the Lafayette city limits.

In a report filed by the LPD, on August 25, Sgt. Matthew Looper was dispatched to Sneed Blvd. and Highway 52, after a complaint was received stating that a black SUV was chasing another vehicle and the suspect vehicle driver, had fired a shot at it with a handgun, from his SUV, while driving down the road.

The driver who allegedly fired the shot, was later identified as 35-year-old Cody J. Blankenship, of Shiloh Road in Lafayette.

The report states that the officer intercepted Cody Blankenship in his SUV at Hwy. 52 and Sneed Blvd., and conducted a felony traffic stop. Blankenship was in possession of a 357 Magnum revolver 5 loaded round and one spent shell case. There was also drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

The officer spoke to a female that was riding with Cody Blankenship, and she stated that Blankenship did try to stop the other vehicle and fired a gun out the driver’s window in the direction of the vehicle he was chasing.

Cody Blankenship was taken into custody and charged with reckless endangerment-deadly weapon involved, unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated assault, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $61,500 and a court date was set for October 20.
